Calendar of Activities from January – March 2015

Aim:  The purpose of this Club is to bring together nature lovers of all age groups onto a common platform to appreciate nature’s bounty in all its dimensions – from the Eagle soaring in the sky to Termites & other insects crawling on the ground. We share our knowledge, experience & expertise while identifying & discussing the abundant flora & fauna in Magarpatta City and other areas of interest in and around Pune.

Activities:  During the past five months we have covered the Aditi Garden, and the Avenue up to the Main Gate. We have studied the flora & fauna in fair amount of detail. Some enthusiasts have even photographed the birds, bees, butterflies, trees, shrubs, flowers, fungi etc. Some of these photographs have been attached to the ‘Report of Activities’ for the period Aug- Nov which is available on the Website – meramagarpattacity.info.  During January – March 2015 we shall study the flora & fauna in the various Neighborhoods & Avenues.

A Presentation by Mrs. Sulabha Sagwekar on how to create works of art out of pressed & dried flowers & leaves is scheduled at the Administration & Security complex on 25 January 2015 at 11 AM.

Frequency:- We shall continue meeting at the Water-body in Aditi Garden at 7 AM every Sunday.

Excursions:- With the onset of winter a large number of Migratory Birds adopt the water bodies in & around Pune as their Wintering Home. We had our first excursion to the National Defence Academy on 14th December 2014. Day trips to the following water bodies are planned during the period Jan – Mar 2015. (a) Ujjani Dam, Bhigwan (approx 100Km away on the Sholapur Highway) -18th January 2015.
(b) Banks of Mulla – Mutha River near Kawdi Gaon/ Manjiri (January/February 2015).
(c) Pashan Lake & or College of Military Engineering, Dapodi. (February 2015)
(d) Rajiv Gandhi National Park at Katraj (March 2015).

Logistics:-  Transport, water & snacks for all sites except Ujjani Dam, Bhigwan will be under own arrangements. We shall however depart from Magarpatta City at the appointed date & time as a group. For Ujjani Dam, Bhigwan, where Flamingoes & many other Winter Visitors have already arrived in large numbers, we intend hiring transport.
